A land art work related to flood plain
Mill Creek Canyon Earthworks
Mill Creek Canyon Earthworks is one of the masterpieces of Herbert Bayer, who is a land artist and a sculptor. The site sometimes will be emerged by flooding. And Herbert actually managed water in this area like a initial solution to the flooding problem. He view this site as the fans of the river way or the estuary. So, he and put a big pipe underneath hiding the water. Then, he made some landfill work here and transformed the site to a pastoral park, in which way the hydrological function here were hidden. Also, all of the materials used by this park were able to withstand the flood.
This case is a kind of resilient design with water. What impressed me most is that the place gives me a feeling of tranquility nothing to do with the flooding disaster here. The project really perfectly combined the function and art.
